Analyzing Electric Motor Designs in COMSOL Multiphysics®

Abstract: In this workshop, you will get an introduction to the modelling of electric motors in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software. We begin by going over the capabilities of the software for examining electromagnetic effects, thermal effects, and vibrations in such rotating machines. Then, we demonstrate how to set up and solve a model of a permanent magnet machine (PMM). We also go over the importance of topology, parameter, and shape optimization in motor design

Alternative Topologies for High Efficiency Motors Including Axial and Transversal Flux Motors

Abstract: Ever since Michael Faraday did an experiment using a bath of mercury to transform electrical energy into mechanical energy in 1821, the demand for electric motors continues to grow year over year. More than 200 years later, the process of electrifying vehicles around the world drives this demand even further. On the other hand, concerns about the prospections of raw materials for the coming decades, reconciled with an increasing demand for global decarbonization, require a deep and critical review. The success of this process necessarily requires a more rational and efficient use of raw materials combined with the development of highly efficient solutions. In this way, the following presentation intends to provide insights that may help building this path by using alternative topologies and innovative materials in electric motors.
